Our Education Department offers English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Spanish-language literacy, computer literacy, citizenship preparation and in-school and after-school youth programs. Our Community Organizing Projects help New Yorkers to implement strategies to combat shared problems, and develop leadership and the capacity for civic participation. And our Departments of Legal, Health & Support Services provides direct legal representation, case management, and facilitated enrollment into public health insurance programs, training, and strategic support for members and organizing campaigns. Our attorneys and advocates specialize in labor and employment law, public benefits, disability benefits, housing law, healthcare and health insurance access, immigration, public education, domestic violence, and TGNCIQ (Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, Intersex, Queer) civil rights issues. Make the Road New York (MRNY) Make the Road New York (MRNY) is looking for a Long Island Immigration Organizer (40 hours/week). This position will be based in our Suffolk County office. Description: The work of the organizer is to build a strong base of community members and leaders who are committed to creating change in Long Island and State. In collaboration with the Lead Organizer for Long Island, the organizer will support the growth and leadership of the members to be critical thinkers and make decisions on strategy and plans to push for the campaigns they want to engage in. The organizer will carry through the organizing plans created in a team setting with members, and Lead Organizer, s/he/they will do this by conducting outreach in the community to build an organizing committee, helping to identify key issues that Suffolk and Nassau residents care about and recruiting local residents to become members of MRNY. The organizer will be focused on helping build MRNY's l base in Suffolk County and will help recruit members into our active campaigns focusing on immigration reform, driver's license, and census campaigns. Travel to and from our Brentwood, Queens, and Brooklyn offices is expected on a regular basis. RESPONSIBILITIES ARE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Lead regular outreach in Suffolk County (schools, colleges, public events, parks, public transportation stations, malls, etc) Maintain participation of members in our bi-weekly Immigration committee meetings in Brentwood Support the leadership and growth of members to lead campaigns. Work with LI Lead Organizer to achieve recruitment, mobilization and campaign goals set by the Organizing Team Lead meetings/workshops at schools, coalitions and other venues Participate regularly in coalition meetings and/or other engagements. Work with other immigration-based organizers to mobilize and engage members to successfully complete campaign goals Engage community members in organizing efforts around immigration, education, community safety and more Maintain database records, paper files, and documentation required by department procedures Recruit 10 new members every month Mobilize members to events and rallies as per need basis, specifically around our Driver's License Campaign, Immigration Reform, and census. Provide support and mobilize for MRNY wide mobilizations and/or events REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must be eligible to work in the US Candidate must have experience working on immigrant right issues College Education and/or equivalent life and/or organizing experienced required Have experience working in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic work environment Flexible work schedule, some evenings or weekends required Have a working knowledge of spreadsheets, Microsoft Office suite, and using a database (ideally Salesforce) to run reports. Possess a commitment to collective action and community organizing. Bilingual English/Spanish is mandatory. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
